Advantages

The Masoneilan 496 Series switches are configurable as electro-mechanical switches, proximity switches, or opto-electronic position transmitters.

The 496 Series instrument is a non-contact opto-electronic positioner transmitter that delivers a 4-20mA analog output signal corresponding to the valve’s position. This device is suitable for installation on both rotary and reciprocating valves. The opto-electronic sensor functions similarly to a conventional potentiometer, with its output voltage being directly related to the rotation of its axis.

An electronic circuit enhances this voltage to produce a 4-20 mA signal that reflects the angle of rotation. This equipment offers numerous advantages, including:

  • Absence of electrical noise typically associated with potentiometers featuring a cursor
  • Frictionless operation
  • Unlimited lifespan
  • Insensitivity to vibration and electrical interference
  • Extremely low operating torque: 0.02 N.m
  • Additionally, the 496-8xx/x model can be equipped with extra features such as one or two micro-switches or one or two proximity switches. This capability is also available for the 496-1xx/x and 496-2xx/x models, allowing for the same type of switch integration.
